Ricobendazole, also known as albendazole sulfate, is a benzimidazole agent that inhibits tubulin polymerization and is commonly used as an anthelmintic and antiparasitic agent, with IC90 values ranging from 3.8 x 10-2 to -4 µg/ml against Encephalitozoon species.{34243,34244,34246,34249} In vitro, ricobendazole effectively kills Taenia cysts, with EC50 and EC99 values of 0.068 and 0.556 µg/ml, respectively, in 11-day cultures, and inhibits adherence in Giardia species with a 24-hour IC50 value of 3.15 µM.{34247,34248} This agent is metabolized from albendazole via cytochrome P450 (CYP450) and may modulate CYP450 activity.{34243,34244,34245} In rat microsomes, ricobendazole reduces the activity of ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) by more than 5-fold relative to albendazole, with an IC50 value of 5 µM.{34244}
