Description
A guanidinium derivative with antihypertensive properties; binds to non-adrenergic sites in pig kidney membranes (IC50 = 10 nM); inhibits the Na+/H+ exchanger in pig kidney membranes (IC50 = 1 μM); inhibits cell-free bovine dopamine β-hydroxylase (IC50 = 90 μM); inhibits electrically-stimulated norepinephrine release from spleen; decreases heart, spleen, hypothalamus, and adrenal norepinephrine content in dogs at 10 mg/kg per day for 6 weeks; decreases adrenal catecholamine levels in rats at a 20 mg/kg per day for 6 weeks; decreases experimentally-induced hypertension and tyramine-induced pressor response and increases norepinephrine-induced pressor response in non-anesthetized dogs at 20 mg/kg
