A monolignol; a precursor in the biosynthesis of lignin; has been used in the synthesis of lignin and a variety of phytochemicals; an inhibitor of SAAH in vitro (IC50 = 34 nM); increases protein levels of Hsf1, Hsp27, and Hsp70 in L132 human lung fibroblast cells at 3 µM; prevents cell death of Hsf1+/+, but not Hsf1-/-, mouse embryonic fibroblasts induced by paclitaxel, cisplatin, or IR; inhibits IR-induced bone marrow damage in mice at 10 mg/kg
