A muscle relaxant; induces paralysis in mice, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, and monkeys (EC50s = 133, <200, 100-250, 50, and 50 mg/kg, respectively); increases ataxia induced by pentobarbital and alcohol in mice; blocks the crossed extensor reflex of the spine without affecting the knee-jerk reflex in cats; induces head drop in rabbits
