A cyclopropene fatty acid; an inhibitor of Δ9-desaturase; decreases 9(Z)-myristoleic acid and increases oleic acid and 9(Z),11(E)-conjugated linoleic acid in the milk of lactating ewes at 0.5 g per day; inhibits 7-keto cholesterol-induced endoplasmic reticulum stress in ARPE-19 cells at 1 µM; prevents the formation of choroidal neovascularization via topical administration of 0.1-10 mM solutions in a rat model of macular degeneration induced by laser injury; binds to a variety of kinases
