Description
A broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic; active against a variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria including clinical isolates of Staphylococcus, P. aeruginosa, H. influenzae, N. gonorrhoeae, B. catarrhalis, C. jejuni, and various species of Enterobacteriaceae (MIC90s = 0.05-3.13 µg/ml); inhibits bacterial DNA replication with IC50 values of 82.6 and 31.6 µg/ml towards S. aureus DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, respectively; active in vivo with ED50s ranging from 0.8 to 16.6 mg/kg in mice with systemic bacterial infections; reduces E. coli in the kidney in a mouse model of urinary tract infection (0.625 and 10 mg/kg, twice daily),
