A broad-spectrum carbamate insecticide; inhibits acetylcholinesterase (Ki = 111 nM); active against German cockroaches and yellow fever mosquitoes (IC50s = 2); toxic to mammals (LD50 = 45 mg/kg for male rats and female mice, oral administration) but excreted rapidly; dermal LC50 = 800 mg/kg after a 24-hour exposure
